The Story Behind Our Mugs

There is a reason the mug is so central to our studio. It is the perfect teaching piece: small enough to learn on, useful enough to sell, and forgiving enough that a trainee can master it within their first months. Many of our makers threw mugs as their very first sellable work.
A handmade mug is also the easiest way for someone new to handmade to feel the difference. The slight weight, the pulled handle that fits the hand, the speckled glaze warm against your palm on a cold morning — these are things a machine-made mug simply cannot offer.
So when you reach for one of ours each day, remember: it likely passed through the hands of someone taking their first proud steps in a brand-new craft, earning a fair wage for honest work.
